Introduction to Global Warming (Essay on Global Warming)

Also referred to as climate change, global warming is the present day increase in earth’s global temperature and the disastrous consequences that come along, as a result of the influential human activities that have been taking place since the very beginning of the Industrial Revolution in 1760. Emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane and others are not only polluting the environment but also heating it up on a massive level, which is turning out to be fatal.

“No one will blame you for global warming except your children.”

How is global warming caused? (Causes of Global Warming)

A number of factors and human activities contribute towards the aggravation of the situation, including deforestation, farming, and burning of fossil fuels that result in the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. It is since 1990 that the yearly emissions have almost gone up by 6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent; an alarming increase of 20 percent.

Deforestation refers to the cutting of trees and removal of forests in order to fulfill the needs of the urban world. Plants and trees are vital to the ecosystem’s survival as they absorb the carbon dioxide present in the air and release back oxygen. The absence of the same leads to excessive accumulation of carbon dioxide in the air, thereby depleting the environment.

Farming and grazing of livestock like the cattle, sheep etcetera produce methane, which is a greenhouse gas. Undertaking such practices at larger scales makes the emissions even more lethal, substantially contributing to global warming.

Fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gases when burnt, emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thereby polluting it tremendously. The burning of these fuels is majorly done to generate electricity, which can unequivocally be switched with other renewable sources of energy, like the wind and solar power.

Fluorinated gaseous emissions from refrigerators, air conditioners, vehicles and other mediums on a universal level also contribute to the devastation, deteriorating the condition with each passing day.

Effects of Global Warming (Impacts of Global Warming)

The innumerable consequences that are a result of this havoc are threatening human survival on earth more than anything now, calling for a rapid solution. Heavier rainfalls, frequent droughts, strapping hurricanes, rising sea levels, melting of glaciers etcetera are all a result of it, making it a global issue that immediately needs to be tackled with.

The greenhouse gases, majorly chlorofluorocarbons present in the atmosphere also cause the ozone layer to deplete, which acts as a shield and protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays that we are subject to.

More and more ramifications are being studied and discovered every day by scientists and researchers, elucidating the extent to which it is affecting us. Higher death rates, dropping levels of life expectancy, breathing problems and other health issues are daunting unduly, thereby tormenting the human race.

Conclusion – Speech on Global Warming

There is simply no time to think but act immediately. Being sensitive towards the environment and caring for it just like it does for us is obligatory at the moment. Mending our ways before it is too late as well as undertaking steps and initiatives, strategizing plans and policies that would aid in the betterment of the situation is vital to the extensive crisis, trying our luck at recouping the damage that has been done.

Hence, the awareness needs to be spread across and we need to take full responsibility for our actions with the required measures.

It is us who have been claiming our rights over Mother Earth and utilizing the resources she has been providing us with, making it our duty to make sure the same can go on for a longer period, for the future generations to come.

It is indeed, now or never.
