Essay on Ram Nath Kovind
Ram Nath Kovind was born on 1 October 1945 in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh and he is an Indian Politician. Kovind won 2017th July election and is now the 14th President of India. Kovind joined BJP in 1991 and is still a member of BJP and is the second president to have been a Dalit leader. He was the Member of Parliament from 1994 to 2006. He was also the Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. He resigned from the post of Governor of Bihar and Pranab Mukherjee accepted his resignation on 20 June 2017 after winning the elections. It was expected that Kovind will win with the voting outcome of 99 % and he won over 7 Lakhs votes from his opposition, Meira Kumar.
Kovind was born in a poor family. Kovind’s father was a farmer. He sold a piece of land for Kovind’s education and makes him a successful lawyer and offered free aid to poor and Dalits. Ram Nath Kovind will be India’s first President born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh. Ram Nath Kovind first stepped into politics in 1994 when he was elected as Rajya Sabha Member from Uttar Pradesh. Besides serving as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, he was also the member of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Law and Justice, Home Affairs, Social Justice and Empowerment, Parliamentary Committees on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

He was earlier a lawyer who practiced his profession for 16 years in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. Ram Nath Kovind married Savita Kovind in 1974 and has a son named Prashant Kumar and a daughter named Swati Kovind. Kovind’s family stays away from the limelight. His wife Savita Kovind called him before he was declared NDA President. His daughter Swati Kovind is an Air Hostess and his son Prashant Kumar owns a Petrol Pump. Kovind’s family is also a big dog lover. When they lived at 144, North Avenue, New Delhi, they adopted six stray dogs. Now the question arises will these dogs be shifting to Rashtrapati Bhavan along with Kovind’s family.
Ram Nath Kovind was selected for National Democratic Alliance and after that, it was been described in media profiles that Kovind is a “soft spoken, unassuming, low profile and affable” person. When Kovind visited his village in 2001, he was presented with 11 silver crowns and people tried to weigh him in coins. But he refused both the things and asked people to love him. He sold all the 11 crowns and used the money to marry off 20womens of his village.
Kovind was also a BJPs National Spokesperson from 2010 to 2012, but he addressed just three press conferences. There was a controversy created in March 2010 when he attended one of the press conferences when he was being named for the presidential race.
Kovind was being selected for this job in the first week of June by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, but Kovind was himself unaware about his candidature till June 17, says report India Today. When a source close to Amit Shah asked him whether Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot will be selected as NDA candidate, he replied “someone like him”.
Ram Nath Kovind also had various academic associations. He was on the list of the management board of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, University Lucknow. He is also a member of Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.
