A computer is a machine that is able to take information as input and process it to make new information as output. It is a very simple data based machine. Invention of First Computer

The first computer was a mechanical computer which was created by the Charles Babbage in 1837 but due to limited finances and inability of resisting thinkers with the designs, he was not able to complete his work and it was later completed by his son Henry Babbage who made it into a simplified version of the analytical engine’s computing unit. The first computer was produced by the Moore School of Engineering called the ENIAC, on behalf of the US Army which was in 1946. The ENIAC was able to produce the firing tables, by carrying out a large number of calculations accurately. A computer consists of a processing unit called the Central Processing Unit or the CPU and a form of memory. In the years between 1940 and 1945 were the first electronic digital computers developed.

Computers are being used for various purposes today like machinery operations, the guidance of spacecraft, weather forecasting, and technology. It is also providing a great helping hand in storing in information that could be referred later. The memory of the computer is so vast that it could hold a large amount of data. Computers can complete various tasks more effectively than human-beings. A computer has greatly increased our efficiency to do various tasks. There are lots of advantages of a computer: it can store millions of pages of information in digital format. We can store huge information. The present day hard-disks can store 100 of GB (Gigabytes) of information. When we are bored we can play games in it to get some enjoyment and when it comes to games, the choices are almost unlimited. Large businesses store their marketing and sales data in their computer systems. Even sensitive data of customers are securely protected in a computerized environment. We can also prepare and can also store the documents. You can also prepare presentations by using PowerPoint. We can also connect the computer to the internet and can browse through huge data. The computer is also used for an entertainment purpose as we can play various applications such as music, videos and much more. The introduction of the computer has resulted in a reduction of cost to perform various complicated tasks.

It is true that even computer is not free from defects. With the number of advantages, it also has many disadvantages with it. As the technology that is new today may soon become obsolete. We need to update the hardware and software regularly. This involves additional time and cost. The threat of viruses and malware attack always remain in the computerized environment. To cope up with the risk of the viruses, various anti-virus software is available in the market which you have to install. At times the operating system of the computer may stop responding or functioning. The computer needs to be operated by a skilled person. This led to an increase in manpower cost for organizations.
