Our Earth has 7 main continents and more than 7.5 billion humans live all across the world. Out of all those, China is first in terms of population and India is at second, following China with the population of over 1.32 billion people. As the population grows, so do issues like poverty, illiteracy, dowry, caste system, superstitions, child labor and much more. Each of these issues is so much merged with the human mind that he blindly believes at all without really thinking into it.
Causes and Effects of Social Issues in India
Illiteracy and Child labor
Illiteracy is the issue that could be considered the root of many other issues like poverty, child labor, child marriage, etc. For example, a penurious person mainly earns money by farming. Most of the rural population depend on agriculture for a living. If they are under-informed, then in situations of natural calamities like drought, their crops will be destroyed and they will not be able to do much as they would not have an idea as to how to tackle such situations. Also, illiteracy is one of the biggest reasons behind crimes in India.
Indian Government had already started various programs and campaigns for education to people of all the ages and there are many older people who took interest and are studying and also sending their kids to school. All across the world, India is a country where child labor statistics are pretty high. According to a survey in 1991, the total number of child laborers in India was 11.28 million which increased to 12.59 million in 2001. In 2013, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) shared a report that around 265 million children are into child labor in the whole world which was about 17% of the total population of children. Child labor is also connected to the illiteracy issue when parents don’t have any alternative options for a living. It destroys a kid’s dreams and desires and also his entire childhood. The only way to reduce child labor is by imparting education and knowledge to children as well as parents. Parents must also understand what is right for their kid. Even the government has to take proper and strict actions so that this can be reduced.

Dowry, is the term which rings bells in everyone’s mind. In India, most of the suicides by women were because of dowry. Not only this, many cases are there where a family killed their daughter-in-law just because of dowry issues. In the royal ancient times, during a wedding, the father of the bride gifted his daughter golds, gems, and other precious jewels. This tradition descended further from generation to generation but currently, the logic and circumstances are completely irrelevant and different. It has become more of a demand rather than a gift. Sometimes, dowry even becomes the sole objective of marriages. In rural areas, there are still people who still kill their newborn daughter just to keep away from giving dowry. This is also one of the major causes of feticides in India.

Solutions to Social Issues in India
One of the best solutions for this issue could be spreading awareness. Also, not to forget, gender inequality should be completely evaded. Equal right to education should be recognized more than simply being stated in the book of law.
A lot of systematical practices such as casteism, racism, and sexism have been carried forward from a long way back. However, no concern was thrown at the reason behind the existence of these systems among the older generation. The systems were blindly taken ahead labeling them as a legacy. There is no logical reasoning or explanation behind these practices and hence, upliftment is possible only if the masses are adequately informed without being affected by external factors that intervene in the process.
